Production program

The production program of Vítkovické slévárny, spol. s r.o. is currently divided into two main divisions. These divisions are the Roller Foundry Division and the Casting Foundry Division.

ROLLER FOUNDRY DIVISION

The Roller Foundry Division specializes in the production of working rolls for hot rolling mills, using centrifugal casting technology using licensed Gontermann-Peipers technology. Annual production is between 6,000 and 7,000 tonnes of rolls.

The materials for the working layer of the rolls are produced in the full range required (high chromium cast iron, indeterminate hardened cast iron, tool steel, high speed steel, ductile iron) and are continuously innovated to meet the most stringent market requirements. Further details on these materials and on the production possibilities (dimensional and weight limits) are given in the product data sheets.

CASTING FOUNDRY DIVISION

The production of castings is focused on the production of shaped castings (wheels, bearings, flywheels, housings, guides, etc.), which the company supplies to customers in the energy, engineering, metallurgy, mining, shipbuilding and construction industries. Foreign customers account for 50% of the total production volume. High alloy steels, including manganese steels, are also an important part of the product range.

The emphasis in all castings is on high quality, narrow range of chemical composition, high dimensional accuracy and on-time delivery. Inspection procedures including non-destructive testing are applied throughout production.

A new production hall has been built for the production of centrifugally cast castings up to 300 kg. The centrifugal casting technology is applied to the production of castings where high material homogeneity is required. The centrifugal casting unit specialises mainly in the production of brass rings for the manufacture of rolling bearings or plain bearings for earth moving machinery. The most commonly used material is MS 59 and MS 66 brass.

Within the Roller Foundry division, we focus mainly on:

  • production of cylinders by gravity casting in coccycles and sand up to a weight of 5,000 - 8,000 kg,
  • piece and small series production of shaped castings in grey, ductile iron and steel weighing from 40 to 15 000 kg,
  • gravity and centrifugal castings of non-ferrous metals from 5 kg to 4 000 kg.

GGRAVITY CASTING OF BRASS AND COPPER ALLOYS

Using the technology of gravity casting into self-solidifying furan mixtures or sand moulds, we are able to produce any shape of complex product up to a weight of approx. 2,000 kg/piece.

  • Castings are supplied rough, roughened with addition or bare machined.
  • We produce the models in our own model shop.
  • We carry out tests according to EN 10204 or according to the customer's requirements.

Materials used

Cu alloys according to ČSN, EN 1982, DIN 1705, 1709, 1714, 1716 and customer’s specifications.

CENTRIFUGAL CASTING OF BRASS CASTINGS

We use centrifugal casting technology to produce centrifugally cast brass alloy castings for the manufacture of bearing cages, high stress sliding bushings and other components.

  • Castings are produced in metal, circular or shaped moulds (coccycles).
  • We have two casting machines with horizontal axis of rotation.
  • The melting is carried out in two induction channel furnaces.
  • Castings are supplied roughened with 1.5 - 2.5 mm allowances per surface, or finished according to customer's requirements.

Advantages of centrifugal casting

  • higher material quality when castings are required to be pressure tested
  • better utility properties of centrifugal castings compared to gravity casting technology, less waste during machining
  • better mechanical properties within the same chemical parameters, higher hardness and tensile strength
  • finer grain structure of the casting, higher material homogeneity

High-quality machinery guarantees the quality and precision of the production of even very complex models. For production we use quality plywood, slats and solid material. Model equipment can be stored in the model warehouse, which provides sufficient storage space. The model shop includes an apprenticeship workplace.

The production is certified by the EN ISO 9001 quality management system by RW TÜW, which guarantees the quality of the production of model equipment.

As a complementary production program, the joinery manufactures office furniture, solid doors and packaging.
